Brandon Flowers has put another chip on the table for his next solo era, releasing “Paradise,” a new single from his upcoming country album, Thrasher.
The Killers frontman’s album is scheduled for release on Aug. 21, Rolling Stone reported. The track arrives roughly a month after Flowers announced the project, which marks a country turn for the Las Vegas singer without, by his account, abandoning his rock catalog.
In a statement shared when the album was announced, Flowers said, “This is not me running away from rock & roll. I don’t want to replace my old songs. I simply found room for more.”
“Paradise” leans into Flowers’ Nevada roots. Rolling Stone reported that the song appears to center on members of his extended family who worked in Las Vegas casinos, with gambling imagery running through the track.
The music also plants its boots in country territory. According to Rolling Stone, “Paradise” features banjo, steel guitar and harmonica, while the lyrics set bright instrumentation against a bleaker look at clocking in, waiting out a shift and chasing a life that stays out of reach.
Flowers has already previewed Thrasher with “Plans.” He also released a live version of that song filmed at RCA Studio A, Rolling Stone reported.
A Nashville crew behind Thrasher
Flowers recorded Thrasher in Nashville with producers Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado, according to Rolling Stone.
The album sessions brought in a notable group of players. Rolling Stone reported that the musicians include David Rawlings, known for his work with Gillian Welch, pedal steel guitarist Bruce Bouton and harmonica player Charlie McCoy, whose credits include Bob Dylan’s Nashville albums.
The lineup points to a record built with country specialists rather than a surface-level genre costume. Flowers, best known for fronting The Killers, is releasing the album under his own name.
