Charli XCX has put the Charli XCX b-sides edition of Music, Fashion, Film on iTunes, giving three extra tracks a wider digital release after they first lived on Instagram and limited physical editions.
The expanded version, titled Music, Fashion, Film (B-Sides Edition), arrived Sunday, according to Rolling Stone. It adds “I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night,” “Playboy Bunny,” and “If You Take the Music Then What Has She Got?” to the album.
The songs were not new to Charli’s most tuned-in fans. Rolling Stone reported that the tracks had already appeared on her @b.sides Instagram alt-account and were pressed as actual b-sides on limited 7-inch singles for “Rock Music,” “SS26,” and “Camera.” They were also included in the physical box set for Music, Fashion, Film.
What is Music, Fashion, Film (B-Sides Edition)?
Music, Fashion, Film (B-Sides Edition) is a digital expanded version of Charli XCX’s seventh studio album. According to Rolling Stone, the iTunes release includes the original 11 songs, the three b-sides, and the accompanying music videos.
The edition is listed on iTunes for $4.99, Rolling Stone reported.
Charli framed the move as a bit of fan-service with a wink. In an Instagram post from @b.sides, she said she made companion tracks for the songs released before the album because pairing them with “a fitting counterpart” felt natural.
She described the b-sides as material that sits next to the album without being fully part of it. Charli also noted in the post that b-sides have a history of becoming fan favorites, and said that appeared to have happened with some of the extras from this album.
Her original plan, she told followers, was to keep the songs away from digital services because releasing them that way felt at odds with the idea behind them. She wrote that fans wanted them, so she had “begrudgingly” put them on iTunes, adding that listeners could call her a hypocrite if they wanted.
What songs are on the Charli XCX b-sides release?
- “I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night”
- “Playboy Bunny”
- “If You Take the Music Then What Has She Got?”
Charli released Music, Fashion, Film on Friday, Rolling Stone reported. The album follows Brat, the record whose breakout success set up intense attention around her next move.
In a recent Rolling Stone cover story, Charli said her albums “work in opposites” and “repel against each other,” calling that push-and-pull their connective tissue. She said she knew while making the new album that she was not going to make the same record again because repeating herself was not creatively rewarding.
Charli is also set to tour behind Music, Fashion, Film, according to Rolling Stone. Her plans include festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Reading and Leeds, plus arena stops including Barclays in Brooklyn and the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
