A Chattanooga Goodwill dog rescue unfolded after workers heard whimpers from deep inside the Goodwill Donation Center on Dodds Avenue, according to McKamey Animal Center. Rescuers found a dog trapped in a drainage pipe beneath the building and brought it out on Oct. 6.

The animal center said the dog had fallen into the pipe and was stuck in an area officers could not initially reach. Local station WTVC reported that employees had heard cries and whimpers from inside the building several days before the rescue.

How was the dog rescued from the Chattanooga Goodwill pipe?

Chattanooga Public Works crews dismantled concrete surrounding the pipe on Tuesday afternoon, according to WTVC and WDEF. That gave McKamey Animal Center animal protection officers access to the dog, allowing them to remove it safely.

McKamey is now providing veterinary evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation, the center said. Shelter officials said they were optimistic the dog would recover while in its care.

The rescue involved distinct roles: Goodwill employees alerted others after hearing the animal; public works crews opened the area around the pipe; and McKamey officers carried out the removal. Reports did not identify the dog’s owner, breed, injuries or the length of time it was inside the pipe.

A video credited to McKamey Animal Center is included in UPI’s coverage of the rescue. The footage is presented there as an embedded social-media reel.

McKamey’s account was echoed by Chattanooga-area outlets, including WTVC and WDEF, which reported the concrete work was completed Oct. 6 and the dog was taken for veterinary care afterward.
