Rush is now listed by Guinness World Records as the official holder of the mark for the most consecutive flaming torch juggling catches on a unicycle. His confirmed total: 175 catches, far beyond the previous record of 37, UPI reported.

The stunt sounds like circus math: one wheel, burning torches, no room for panic. Rush, who already had Guinness titles tied to both juggling and unicycling, wrote online that he went into the challenge with more confidence than the situation deserved.

How did David Rush break the flaming torch unicycle record?

Rush broke the record by riding a unicycle while juggling lit torches and completing 175 consecutive catches. Guinness World Records reviewed video of the attempt before recognizing him as the official title holder.

Rush said the danger became clear once he started moving. In a post on his website, he wrote that pedaling forward created airflow that pushed the flames back toward his face, a problem he said was not spelled out in the official rules.

That lesson arrived fast. Rush said his first attempt left him without his eyebrows and also burned hair on the backs of his hands, according to UPI.

After that fiery introduction, Rush switched to practice with unlit torches. He later scheduled his official attempt for Halloween 2025, which gave the whole thing a fittingly reckless seasonal backdrop without changing the rules of the record.

The official try did not begin smoothly. Rush wrote online that he prepared the cameras, soaked the wicks, lit the torches, got onto the unicycle and then dropped all of the torches onto concrete right away.

He said he picked them up and tried again, only to drop them again within seconds. Rush described the early failures as part of the process, writing that a failed attempt is less important than the response that follows.

On the third attempt, the ride finally held together. Rush reached 175 catches, more than four times the standing record, according to UPI. Guinness World Records now lists him as the title holder for the feat.

Rush has built a reputation through unusual Guinness attempts. UPI noted that he previously held multiple records involving juggling and unicycling, and has also pursued other offbeat titles.

For this one, the numbers tell only part of the story. The official mark is 175 catches. The unofficial souvenir, by Rush's own account, was a face-first reminder that fire and forward momentum make a rough team.
