Maine shark biologist Emily Morrison has 106 shark tattoos, a total Guinness World Records officially counted in May.

Emily Morrison shark tattoos now come with a Guinness World Records title: 106 sharks inked across the Maine biologist’s body, according to United Press International and Guinness World Records.
Guinness said Morrison, who is also known as “Shark Lady Emily,” received the record for the most sharks tattooed on the body in the female category after the organization formally counted her tattoos in May.
UPI reported that Morrison is a shark biologist and the owner of a shark fossil diving tour company. Her record is tied directly to the animal that shaped both her work and her body art.
How many shark tattoos does Emily Morrison have?
Morrison has 106 shark tattoos, according to Guinness World Records. The organization said that total was enough to award her the female record for most sharks tattooed on the body.
The record is specific: it counts shark tattoos on one person’s body, and Guinness listed Morrison’s title in the female category. Guinness World Records is the organization that verifies and publishes record attempts across a wide range of categories.
From Jaws fear to shark obsession
Morrison told Guinness her interest in sharks began with fear after she watched Jaws when she was 8 years old. According to UPI, her father then encouraged her to learn about real sharks at the library, and that research helped turn the fear into fascination.
Her connection with sharks later moved far beyond books. Morrison said she has fed tiger sharks and great hammerheads in the Bahamas, cage-dived with great white sharks in Australia, and swum with whale sharks off Mexico.
“I have fed tiger sharks and great hammerheads in the Bahamas, cage dove with great whites in Australia, swam with whale sharks off the coast of Mexico, and so much more,” Morrison said, according to Guinness World Records.
UPI described Morrison’s collection as a visible tribute to the animals she studies and encounters. Guinness also characterized her as shark-obsessed in its announcement of the record.

Morrison is scheduled to appear in My Strange Shark Addiction, according to UPI. The special is part of the Discovery Channel’s annual Shark Week programming event.
UPI reported that the Shark Week event begins Sunday. Morrison’s appearance gives the record a TV spotlight, with Guinness already putting the official number at 106.
