Samsung’s next rugged smartwatch may arrive with a much larger battery and a brighter display, if new renders shared by leaker Evan Blass prove accurate.

Blass posted a batch of images on Substack that appear to show the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 ahead of the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22. According to Mashable, the renders look close to official marketing material and include text listing several claimed specifications.

The headline hardware claim is an 800mAh battery. Mashable reported that would be a sizable jump from the 590mAh cell used in last year’s Galaxy Watch Ultra model.

The leaked material also claims the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will carry an IP69K rating for dust and water resistance. That rating appears in the renders posted by Blass, according to Mashable.

What the leak says is changing

The display may be one of the more noticeable upgrades. The leaked spec text claims a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, compared with 3,000 nits on the previous watch, Mashable reported.

That brightness figure lines up with an earlier leak cited by Mashable, which claimed the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 would have a notably bright display. The new render leak repeats that 5,000-nit number.

The watch is also claimed to be 12 percent thinner than last year’s model. The renders show the wearable’s design as well as the spec text, though the device has not yet been formally launched by Samsung.

Another claimed change is inside the watch. Blass’ leak says the wearable will use the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, according to Mashable. The report said that detail also matches other recent leaks about Samsung’s upcoming watches.

Samsung’s launch is close

The timing gives this leak extra weight. Samsung is scheduled to hold Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, where the company is expected to show its next wave of devices.

Mashable noted that Samsung phones and watches have often appeared in leaks ahead of official announcements, in contrast with Apple’s tighter control over unreleased hardware details.

For now, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 specs remain leak claims from Blass and other pre-launch reports. Samsung’s Unpacked event should confirm which details make it into the final product lineup.
