Gracie Abrams brought “Minibar” to late night on Thursday, giving the song its first television performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The singer-songwriter performed on the NBC stage against a vivid red backdrop, with the show posting video of the appearance on its YouTube channel. The song appears on Abrams’ new album, Daughter From Hell, which arrived Friday.

Abrams also sat down with Jimmy Fallon to talk about the record, which was produced by Aaron Dessner of the National. Dessner previously produced her first two albums, Good Riddance and The Secret of Us.

A new album with a family apology baked in

During the interview, Fallon asked Abrams about the title and the idea behind Daughter From Hell. Abrams said the album reflects what she was like as a child, telling Fallon, “I was brutal.”

She said the title track was the final song she wrote for the album and described it as “a decades overdue apology” to her mother. Abrams added that she did not think her experience was unusual, saying the friction between childhood, self-discovery and defiance “can be turbulent.”

“So this is a thank you note to her,” Abrams told Fallon.

Ahead of the album’s release, Abrams had already shared two singles: “Hit the Wall” and “Look at My Life.” According to Rolling Stone, “Look at My Life” quickly became a fan favorite after its release.

Taylor Swift, Glastonbury and a Beatle in the wings

Abrams also spoke with Fallon about opening for Taylor Swift and about returning to the road later this year. The conversation turned to Glastonbury, where Abrams said she spotted Paul McCartney watching from the side of the stage.

She told Fallon that there was an area in the wings where friends and family could watch the performance. Abrams said she looked over while taking in the moment and expected to find her family there.

Instead, she said, McCartney was in view. Abrams described the moment as “so nauseating” and joked in disbelief, “No, you’re not.”

The Fallon appearance comes as Abrams gets ready for more live dates. Her Look at My Life Tour is scheduled to begin Dec. 2 in Denver, Colorado.

After announcing the tour, Abrams wrote on social media that she had missed fans and loved them, using a string of exclamation points to match the mood.

For now, the “Minibar” performance gives fans the first TV look at one of the songs from Daughter From Hell, a record Abrams framed on The Tonight Show as both a reflection on growing up and a message of gratitude to her mother.
