Is Lord Corlys dead after House of the Dragon Season 3, episode 6? The HBO drama ends its latest hour with Corlys Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint, under attack in the woods, but the episode stops short of showing his death.
The cliffhanger lands after a rough stretch for the Lord of the Tides. Earlier in Season 3, episode 1, Corlys survived the Battle of the Gullet after going overboard in full armor and later washing up on a beach relatively unharmed.
Episode 6 puts him back in danger after a confrontation with Queen Rhaenyra, played by Emma D’Arcy. Corlys lashes out when she refuses to legitimize his sons, then disappears from the political center of the story.
What happened to Lord Corlys at the end of episode 6?
Corlys is later found by his son Alyn, played by Abubakar Salim, out in the woods. There, Corlys is shown killing members of the Triarchy, who the episode indicates have been raiding Driftmark.
Alyn tells his father he is needed back in King’s Landing. Corlys does not appear eager to return at first, but by the closing scene he is addressing his men and telling them they are required back in the city.
That moment is cut through with menace. As Corlys looks at hanged bodies, Bold Jon Roxton, played by Joplin Sibtain, appears behind him with armed men. The episode identifies Bold Jon as a man tied to Lord Ormund Hightower.
Corlys asks who he is and what he wants. The mood shifts fast. Corlys realizes the meeting is hostile and draws his sword, but he is caught from behind before he can take control of the fight.
A man jumps onto Corlys and wraps something around his neck. The episode then shows him struggling from a distance as another man moves toward him, before cutting away without revealing the final outcome.
Is Lord Corlys dead in House of the Dragon?
The episode does not confirm that Lord Corlys is dead. The clearest clue is visual: Corlys is still moving in the last shot where viewers can see him. He is being attacked, but the scene ends before the attackers finish whatever they came to do.
That leaves two possibilities on the table from what the episode shows. Corlys may be killed offscreen, or he may be captured and used as leverage against Rhaenyra.
The hostage possibility fits the political stakes shown in the episode. Removing Corlys from Rhaenyra’s side would keep his reinforcements away from King’s Landing, while keeping him alive could give Team Green a valuable prisoner.
The episode also makes clear that Ormund’s side has an interest in striking at Corlys. Bold Jon’s appearance with men of his own suggests the ambush is organized rather than random, though the episode does not reveal their exact orders before cutting away.
For now, the safest answer is that Corlys is in grave danger, but his death has not been shown. House of the Dragon Season 3 is streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
