Jim James previews Wowed Out with new title-track video
Jim James released “Wowed Out,” the title track from his first solo album in eight years, and set solo acoustic dates for late 2026.

Jim James has put the Jim James Wowed Out era in motion, releasing the album’s title track with a new music video ahead of the solo LP’s Aug. 28 arrival, Rolling Stone reported.
The My Morning Jacket frontman’s fifth solo album is his first under his own name in eight years. James produced the record himself, according to Rolling Stone.
The album has an unusual backstory. Rolling Stone reported that James began revisiting music last fall that he had recorded more than a decade earlier with longtime friend and composer Brian Reitzell, who is known for his work with Sofia Coppola. Those recordings were originally made for two film-scoring projects in the early 2010s.
James said in a statement that he had returned to the material for years without knowing what to make of it. Last year, he said, the pieces started to come together in what he described as a beautiful flow.
When does Jim James release Wowed Out?
Wowed Out is scheduled for release on Aug. 28, according to Rolling Stone. The record follows James’ 2018 solo albums Uniform Distortion and Uniform Clarity.
A press release said the album title comes from a phrase James created for the overstimulation of modern life. Rolling Stone described the title track as spare and atmospheric, with James’ voice at the center as the arrangement gradually opens up around him.
James also said he had been listening to Alice Coltrane’s spiritual recordings while making the album. In his statement, he said he wanted the songs to feel like a rewarding trip without relying on a dramatic chorus or guitar solo as the obvious destination.
The title track follows “Come Again,” the album’s first single, which arrived last month. Rolling Stone reported that James first wrote that song for a teddy bear factory scene before reshaping it into a psychedelic meditation about finding beauty amid disorder.

James has stayed busy with My Morning Jacket during the gap between solo albums. Rolling Stone noted that the band released several records in that stretch, including the 2025 LP Is and last May’s Peacelands, which features acoustic covers and original protest songs.

James will mark the album release with a solo acoustic headline performance at Song Summit in Park City, Utah, on Aug. 28. Rolling Stone reported that a run of solo headline shows begins Nov. 28 at the Kentucky Performing Arts Brown Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky, his hometown.
