Microsoft is dangling a pricey audio perk for Surface shoppers: a pair of Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones with the purchase of select new Surface devices.

The offer is part of Microsoft’s Back-to-School Sale and runs through July 31, according to the promotion details. Customers who buy an eligible 12th-edition Surface Pro or 8th-edition Surface Laptop from the Microsoft Store can receive a redemption code for Sony’s WH-1000XM6 headphones.

The headphones are listed in the promotion as a $459.99 value. Mashable has named the Sony WH-1000XM6 a Mashable Choice Award winner, but the deal itself is tied to Microsoft’s eligible Surface purchases and Sony’s redemption process.

What buyers have to purchase

The promotion applies to eligible Microsoft Surface models sold through the Microsoft Store. The Surface Pro included in the offer starts at $1,499.99, according to the deal terms, while the eligible Surface Laptop starts at $1,599.99.

The devices named in the offer are the 12th-edition Surface Pro and the 8th-edition Surface Laptop. Microsoft says the purchase must be made by July 31 to qualify.

How the headphone redemption works

Microsoft says customers who qualify will receive a Sony redemption code by email within seven business days after the Surface purchase.

After that, buyers must take the code to Sony’s site and redeem it by Dec. 31, 2026. Sony will then ship the headphones to the customer, according to the promotion details.

  • Buy an eligible Surface Pro or Surface Laptop from the Microsoft Store by July 31.
  • Wait for Microsoft to email a Sony redemption code within seven business days.
  • Redeem the code through Sony by Dec. 31, 2026.

The fine print

The deal is limited to one redemption code per household. Shipping is also restricted: the delivery address must be a physical address in the contiguous United States.

That means Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories and PO boxes are excluded from the headphone shipment under the promotion terms.

The offer lands as back-to-school tech deals begin to roll out across major retailers. For anyone already eyeing one of Microsoft’s newest Surface machines, the Sony headphone add-on is the hook: buy the eligible computer now, then claim the headphones later through Sony.
