A Lotto America ticket sold at a Holiday gas station in Coon Rapids has landed a $34.12 million jackpot, setting a new Minnesota record, according to the Minnesota Lottery.
Lottery officials said the winning ticket was purchased at the Holiday location on Coon Rapids Boulevard in Coon Rapids. The prize is the largest Lotto America jackpot ever won in Minnesota, officials said.
The winner has one year to come forward and claim the money, according to the lottery. No winner was identified in the lottery announcement reported by UPI on July 20.
A gas station gets its own payday
The jackpot is not the only payout tied to the ticket. The Holiday gas station that sold it will receive a $10,000 bonus, lottery officials said.
That retailer bonus is tiny next to the jackpot, of course, but it gives the Coon Rapids stop a slice of the celebration while the ticket holder decides when to claim the prize.
Minnesota Lottery Executive Director Adam Prock said in a news release that the win had created buzz well beyond the store counter.
“A jackpot win of this magnitude creates excitement across the state and highlights the fun that comes with playing the Lottery,” Prock said. “We're thrilled to celebrate this incredible win while continuing to generate proceeds that benefit Minnesotans.”
