Odyssey books trending on Amazon have become the latest side effect of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, after Rolling Stone reported the film opened with $124 million at the domestic box office.
The movie’s debut has pushed fresh attention toward Homer’s ancient poem, with Rolling Stone reporting that editions, adaptations and companion guides tied to The Odyssey are moving up Amazon’s bestseller charts. The original epic is nearly 3,000 years old, but the new film appears to have sent modern readers hunting for a way into Odysseus’ long, twisty trip home.
Why are Odyssey books trending on Amazon?
Rolling Stone tied the Amazon surge to renewed interest after Nolan’s film brought Homer’s myth back into the pop-culture spotlight. For viewers who do not know the gods, monsters and family drama behind the story, translations and guides offer a clearer route through the material.
The Odyssey is Homer’s epic about Odysseus and his journey after the Trojan War. It is one of the central works of ancient Greek literature, and modern editions often add notes, maps, summaries or illustrations to help readers track the cast and mythology.
Which Odyssey books are climbing?
Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey is one of the standout movers. Rolling Stone reported that Wilson’s edition was sitting at No. 7 on Amazon’s charts and noted that the 2017 translation was the first English version of the poem by a woman.
Rolling Stone also highlighted Robert Fagles’ translation, a Penguin Classics edition with an introduction and commentary by classicist Bernard Knox. The Fagles version was listed as an Amazon bestseller and is known for a modern, readable approach to Homer’s verse, according to Rolling Stone.
Readers looking for pictures with their monsters have another hot option: Gareth Hinds’ The Odyssey: A Graphic Novel. Rolling Stone reported that the deluxe edition, published in May 2026, had become an Amazon No. 1 bestseller and features a cover with gold foil and painted edges.

Also appearing in the roundup were Doug Metzger’s The Odyssey: An Illustrated Guide: A Character-by-Character Guide to the Story of Odysseus and Eirene S. Allen’s The Epic Women of Homer: Exploring Women’s Roles in the Iliad and Odyssey.
