Pokémon Pitch Black trainer box gets a launch-day price cut
The Mega Evolution Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box is listed below its $119.99 retail price at Amazon, TCGplayer and Walmart.

The Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box has barely hit shelves, and sellers are already trimming the price.
As of July 17, Amazon listed the new Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box at $94.48, with $5.49 shipping, against a $119.99 list price. Mashable reported that price tracker camelcamelcamel confirmed it as the lowest total seen for the nine-pack box at Amazon so far.
An Amazon shopping card also showed the box at $94.98, saving $25.01 from the $119.99 list price. The same deal page’s summary listed a $89.99 Amazon sale price, though the body of the report put the Amazon listing at $94.48 before shipping.
Delivery timing may be the catch for collectors who want the box fast. Mashable reported that Amazon’s estimated arrival window was July 24 to Aug. 7 at the time of writing, and said pricier listings may be the better bet for buyers who want a firmer end-of-month delivery.
TCGplayer undercuts Amazon
Amazon is not the cheapest place named in the report. TCGplayer had unopened Pitch Black Elite Trainer Boxes starting at $85.93 with shipping included, according to Mashable.
That price was $9.55 below Amazon’s listed total and also under the box’s current $88.40 market price, the report said. Walmart was close behind, with third-party sellers listing the Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box as low as $89.79.
The launch-day discount comes as Pitch Black officially joins the Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution set, giving collectors another box to chase and another price chart to watch.
What is inside the box
The Elite Trainer Box includes nine Pitch Black booster packs, according to Mashable. It also comes with a full-art foil Zarude promo card, 65 card sleeves and 40 Energy cards.
The rest of the box is built for play and storage: a player’s guide, damage-counter dice, a competition-legal coin-flip die, a plastic coin, storage dividers and a Pokémon TCG Live code card.
For collectors chasing single cards rather than sealed boxes, Mashable noted that some of the Pitch Black expansion’s top chase cards were listed with values reaching close to $400. The report named SIR Mega Darkrai ex, MHR Mega Darkrai ex, SIR Morpeko ex and SIR Mega Zeraora ex among cards available individually on TCGplayer.
Prices and shipping windows can shift quickly on trading card releases, especially through third-party sellers. The figures reported here reflect the July 17 listings cited by Mashable, Amazon, TCGplayer, Walmart and camelcamelcamel.
