Post Malone premieres Chrome Heartbreaker before World Cup final

Post Malone used the World Cup final spotlight to bring out new music, opening his pregame set with “Chrome Heartbreaker” before Spain and Argentina kicked off, Rolling Stone reported.
The performance took place July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, 90 minutes before the 2026 FIFA World Cup final began, according to Rolling Stone and FIFA photo information from the event.
Rolling Stone reported that Malone had teased “Chrome Heartbreaker” during the week leading up to the match. After the debut, he moved into “Wow” and then “Sunflower,” with Swae Lee joining him for the latter.
Video shared on X by the fan account Portal Post Malone showed Malone performing “Chrome Heartbreaker” during the ceremony. The Athletic also posted a clip of Malone and Swae Lee singing “Sunflower,” crediting Telemundo Sports for the footage.
FIFA had billed Malone as the headliner earlier in the week. In a statement cited by Rolling Stone, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said Malone’s performance was planned for “a time when sport, culture, and global attention converge” and was meant to celebrate the tournament while building the atmosphere before the two finalists took the field.
A packed pregame bill
Malone was not the only name in the stadium before kickoff. Rolling Stone reported that Tom Cruise appeared during the festivities ahead of the fall 2026 release of his film “Digger.”
Jennifer Hudson performed the United States national anthem, according to Rolling Stone. YouTube star IShowSpeed also took the stage with his song “Champions,” a performance shown in a clip posted by FOX Sports on X.
The final’s music lineup was set to continue at halftime. Rolling Stone reported that Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira and BTS were scheduled to perform for attendees at the match.
A tournament full of music
The final capped a month of World Cup performances across the tournament’s three host territories: the United States, Canada and Mexico, according to Rolling Stone.
Rolling Stone reported that Shakira and Burna Boy helped launch the tournament in Mexico City with “Dai Dai.” In the United States opener at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Future, Tyla and Katy Perry were among the performers, according to the magazine.
Canada’s opening ceremony featured Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara and Eliana, Rolling Stone reported. Ellie Goulding later appeared at the quarterfinals, where England beat Norway before losing to Argentina in the semifinals.
Malone’s World Cup appearance came while he was on his Big Ass Stadium Tour with Jelly Roll, according to Rolling Stone. The tournament itself was nearing its last match, with Spain and Argentina playing for the trophy.
FIFA’s next men’s World Cup is scheduled for 2030, Rolling Stone reported. The tournament will mark its 100th anniversary, with Morocco, Portugal and Spain confirmed as hosts.
