Robin Steiner’s blobbing record reached a reported 92.58 feet after three men jumped onto a large airbag floating on water in Brunnen, Schwyz, Switzerland. UPI reported, citing Guinness World Records, that the Aug. 9 attempt set a new high mark for the stunt.
The 92-foot figure used in headlines is rounded. The reported peak was 92.58 feet, with Swiss participant Steiner launched from the airbag by the impact of the other jumpers.
Who took part in Robin Steiner’s blobbing record?
Luc Siegenthaler of Switzerland, Lennart Florczak of Germany and Tristan Kuhn of the United States were the three people who jumped onto the airbag, according to UPI’s report. Steiner, also Swiss, was the person propelled into the air.
The previous Guinness World Record height was 72 feet and 2.14 inches, set in 2012, UPI reported. Steiner’s reported result cleared that earlier mark by roughly 20 feet and 5 inches.
Blobbing is the name used for this airbag-on-water stunt. The available reporting establishes the jumpers’ and Steiner’s roles in the record attempt, but does not detail the event’s measurement process, rules or safety arrangements.
Adrian Baumann of experience provider Paintball Farm told Guinness World Records that Steiner first tried being launched at one of its events about four years earlier. Baumann said Steiner kept returning to its blobbing sessions and that the group came to regard him as particularly talented at the activity.
That experience eventually led to the record attempt, Baumann said. UPI reported the result on Aug. 28, describing it as a new Guinness World Records height for blobbing.
