Roblox is putting AI game creation directly into its app, with a new toolset called Build that is designed to help users make playable experiences from a phone.
The company announced Build as a mobile-first addition to Roblox Studio, the creation hub already used by developers on the platform. Roblox said the test phase begins July 28 and will introduce a new Build tab inside the Roblox app.
Roblox, which says it has 132 million daily active users, already hosts millions of user-made games and experiences. Build is aimed at people who have a game idea but do not know the technical side of making one.
In its announcement, Roblox said users will be able to create environments, characters, visual styles, gameplay systems, sound and other pieces of an experience without leaving the app. The company said the tools will run on a “broad set” of AI models, including Roblox’s own proprietary models.
How Build is supposed to work
Roblox said creators will be able to use conversational prompts to tell Build what they want to make. After that, they can test the result, make changes, correct problems, add features and keep customizing before sharing the finished game.
According to Roblox, its AI models were trained on a large collection of 3D models and gaming data, allowing them to generate working 3D models and scenes.
Roblox founder and CEO David Baszucki described Build in a post on X as “a new way for anyone to create a game on Roblox from their phone.” He also said the company is expanding AI-powered tools for developers at every level.
“We’re doing this for one reason: The world needs more play,” Baszucki wrote.
Not every feature arrives for everyone at once
Some Build features will have a more limited launch. Roblox said publishing games made with Build will initially be available only to selected users in a public alpha. Users in New Zealand will be included in the first test phase for publishing Build-created games.
The company said it expects to expand Build to more creators and more regions in the coming months.
Roblox also said it is adding new AI agents across Build and Studio. Those agents will be able to test games for bugs, explain analytics and help creators try different options intended to support engagement and monetization.
Safety checks and pricing
Build will be available to age-checked users who are 9 or older, according to Roblox. Published Build games that pass safety checks will be available to age-checked users 16 and older.
Games intended for the Roblox Kids or Select catalogs will go through an extended review process, which Roblox said is required for all games in those catalogs.
The company said it plans to offer a free base tier of Build, with paid options for heavier users later.
Roblox also addressed concerns about low-quality AI-generated games flooding the platform. In its Build announcement, the company said its discovery systems are designed so that games people do not play will not be easy to find.
“The quality of games on the homepage isn’t changing: If no one plays it, no one can find it,” Roblox said.
