Silo Season 3 has put a face on one of its quietest threats: a gray-haired man who appears twice in the flashback timeline, first near Charles and then across the room from her brother, Congressman Daniel Keene.

According to Mashable’s breakdown of episode 3, the Apple TV series is now three episodes into its third season, with the silo storyline still steeped in suspicion. The flashback plot has grown just as tense, because Daniel’s inquiry into his sister Charles’ crash has led him straight toward a man the show had already placed in her orbit.

Daniel’s search leads to a funeral

Episode 3 follows Daniel, played by Ashley Zukerman, as he looks into what happened during Charles’ mission. Mashable reports that the trail takes him to the funeral of one of Charles’ fellow pilots.

There, Daniel speaks with the dead pilot’s father, Alameda, played by Joseph Balderrama. During that conversation, Alameda tells Daniel that a recording of the mission communications may exist, according to Mashable.

Near the end of their exchange, two men enter the scene on the other side of the crowded room. One is identified by Alameda as the captain of the Nimitz, Mashable reports. Alameda then walks over to greet the uniformed officer.

The second man stands out for a different reason. He has gray hair, wears civilian clothes, and keeps looking toward Daniel, according to Mashable’s recap.

The subway moment now looks less innocent

Mashable links the funeral appearance to a moment from Season 3’s first episode, when Charles, played by Jessica Brown Findlay, is heading to meet Daniel.

In that earlier scene, Charles notices the same gray-haired man on a subway platform, according to Mashable. Their eyes meet before she moves farther along the platform and gets onto the train.

Charles then spots him in a neighboring carriage and reacts with alarm, Mashable reports. She exits at the last moment, while the train continues with the man still aboard. He does not look up as it passes her.

Mashable says the first episode left room for doubt about whether Charles was being followed or whether her fear was misplaced. Episode 3, by putting the same man near Daniel’s investigation, gives the earlier subway scene a sharper edge.

What the show has revealed so far

The character has not been fully identified in the episodes discussed by Mashable. The actor playing him is Reed Birney, who has had recurring roles in House of Cards and American Horror Story, Mashable reports.

Mashable argues that Birney’s casting suggests the role may grow beyond brief appearances. The recap also notes that the character enters the funeral alongside a senior military figure while dressed as a civilian, which points to someone with access or influence, though the series has not confirmed his position.

Possible explanations raised by Mashable include intelligence, law enforcement or private investigation ties, but those remain theories. For now, the show has established only that the man was near Charles before her crash and later appears near Daniel as he digs into what happened.

Silo Season 3 is streaming on Apple TV, with new episodes released on Fridays, according to Mashable.
