Tom Morello's Date Night previews new solo album
Tom Morello has announced Everyone Gets Everything They Want and released Date Night, an anti-Nazi single inspired by a World War II story.

Tom Morello has put Tom Morello Date Night out front as the latest preview of his next solo album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, which Rolling Stone reports will arrive Sept. 25 through Mom + Pop Music.
The Rage Against the Machine guitarist’s new record includes production from Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey and Sam Nelson Harris, according to Rolling Stone. The guest list brings in Serj Tankian, Kneecap and Beartooth, along with Morello’s son Roman Morello.
“Date Night” lands with a grim historical spark. Rolling Stone reports that the song is based on the true story of three young Dutch girls who worked against the Nazis during World War II as spies, saboteurs and assassins.
What is Tom Morello's Date Night about?
According to Rolling Stone, “Date Night” recounts how the young women operated in the underground resistance, seducing Nazi officers, drawing them into the woods and killing them. Morello framed the track in political terms, calling it a “which side are you on?” song in a statement.
“I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists,” Morello said. “I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis.” He added that if any of that offends listeners, they should “do the math.”
Morello also gave Roman Morello credit for the track’s muscle, saying his son wrote the song’s “killer riff.” Roman appears elsewhere on the album too, including the previously released “Adjourn It,” which features both him and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian.
Rolling Stone reports that “Adjourn It” takes aim at what it describes as a rising tide of racism and anti-immigrant bigotry. It was the first track shared from Everyone Gets Everything They Want, making “Date Night” the album’s second preview.

The album’s 10-song track list includes collaborations with Tankian and Roman Morello on “Adjourn It,” Kneecap on “Unconquered” and Beartooth on “Everything Burns.” Other listed songs include “Pretend You Remember Me,” “Beth From Electronics,” the title track, “I Am Not Yours to Command,” “Soldier in the Army of Love,” “Date Night” and “The Last Rung on the Ladder.”
The album announcement follows a busy stretch for Morello. Rolling Stone reports that he recently finished a tour with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and performed last weekend at Newport Folk Festival.
Morello’s next listed live date is Louder Than Life in Louisville on Sept. 19. He has also announced the Power to the People Festival, a one-day event set for Oct. 3 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
The festival is billed as a “celebration of peace, justice, solidarity, music, and community action,” according to Rolling Stone. Its lineup includes Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Public Enemy, Killer Mike, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black, Serj Tankian, Grandson, the Neighborhood Kids, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron, the Linda Lindas, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and a DJ set from Shepard Fairey.
Morello said in a statement that the festival is about “freedom, justice, equality and rock & roll,” and described it as a day centered on activism, creativity and hope.
