The A Place in Hell release date is moving: Neon has shifted Chloe Domont’s adult thriller from Christmas Day to April 23, 2027, according to Deadline.
The film stars Michelle Williams as a successful criminal defense attorney whose ambitions are thrown off course when a younger lawyer, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, is brought in to replace her. Andrew Scott also appears in the cast.
Deadline reports that the move follows encouraging test screenings and that there has been a strong response to the performances by Williams and Edgar-Jones. The outlet also reports that the April date allows Neon and Universal to line up a coordinated worldwide launch.
When is A Place in Hell coming out?
A Place in Hell is now scheduled to open on April 23, 2027. It had previously been set for a Christmas Day release.
That date puts the thriller into a pre-summer corridor that studios often use for films aimed at adult audiences before the biggest summer releases arrive. Deadline notes that Neon already had the April 23 weekend reserved for an untitled theatrical release.
The film will share the date with Amazon MGM Studios’ Spaceballs: The New One and Warner Bros.’ untitled F.A.S.T. movie, according to Deadline. The Williams and Edgar-Jones thriller is positioned as counterprogramming to those titles.
What is A Place in Hell about?
A Place in Hell is a workplace thriller centered on power, ambition and rivalry inside the world of criminal defense. Williams plays an established attorney, while Edgar-Jones plays the younger lawyer whose arrival threatens her position.
Domont directs the film after making her feature directorial debut with Fair Play. Deadline reports that Fair Play sold to Netflix out of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival for $20 million.

The spring slot also gives Neon a place in a recent run of female-driven adult films opening in the season. Deadline cited Challengers, which opened to $15 million in the U.S., The Drama, which opened to $14.3 million, and Reminders of Him, which debuted with $17.9 million.
For Neon, the date change puts a star-led thriller in a cleaner global launch window and away from the crush of Christmas Day releases. For moviegoers, it means Williams, Edgar-Jones and Scott will now arrive in late April 2027 instead of the holiday frame.
