Brexton Busch, the 11-year-old son of late NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, picked up a milestone victory Friday night at Port City Raceway in Oklahoma, according to Motorsport.

The racing trade publication reported that Brexton competed in multiple events at the dirt track and won the restricted micro sprint class division. It was his first race win since his father’s death in May.

Brexton is the older of Kyle and Samantha Busch’s two children. Samantha marked the moment Saturday on Instagram, posting images from the track after the win.

In the photos described by TMZ Sports, Brexton wore a bright green racing suit and stood with his team in front of his car. He also held a checkered flag after the first-place finish.

Samantha wrote on Instagram that she was proud of her son and heartbroken for him at the same time, according to TMZ Sports. She said his drive and resilience through a painful stretch had amazed her.

She closed the post with a message to Brexton: “Congratulations, buddy. Dad would’ve been so, so proud. ❤️🏁.”

The win came less than two months after Kyle Busch died at 41. TMZ Sports reported in May that Busch had been hospitalized after a severe illness, and that 911 audio obtained by the outlet indicated he was having trouble breathing, overheating and coughing up blood before emergency responders arrived.

Authorities later determined that Busch died from severe pneumonia that developed into sepsis, according to TMZ Sports.

Busch’s death drew mourning across the racing community. TMZ Sports reported that several tributes were held in his honor at racing events during May, including remembrances by fellow drivers and people close to the NASCAR world.

Samantha has continued sharing family moments since her husband’s death. TMZ Sports reported earlier this month that she posted about seeing two rainbows she believed were signs from him.

Friday’s win added another racing chapter for the Busch family, this time with Brexton taking the checkered flag on a dirt track in Oklahoma.
