The Carrie series release date is on the calendar: Prime Video says all eight episodes of its new Stephen King adaptation will premiere on Oct. 7.
The streamer has also released a new teaser trailer for the series, bringing King’s bullied, telekinetic high-schooler back to the screen in television form. Prime Video’s official teaser is available on YouTube.
When is the Carrie series release date?
Prime Video will debut the full eight-episode season of Carrie on Oct. 7. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
The show comes from Mike Flanagan, who serves as writer, executive producer, showrunner and director. Trevor Macy is also an executive producer.
What is the new Carrie series about?
Prime Video’s logline describes the series as a new take on Carrie White, a socially isolated high-school student who has lived under the control of her mother. After the sudden death of her father, Carrie enters public high school and faces a bullying scandal that shakes her community, while also discovering unexplained telekinetic abilities.
That premise keeps the central engine of King’s 1974 horror novel intact: a mistreated teenager, a punishing home life and powers she cannot ignore. Telekinesis means the ability to move or affect objects with the mind, a key part of Carrie’s story across its screen versions.
Who is in the Carrie cast?
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White. Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell, and Matthew Lillard appears as Principal Grayle.
The cast also includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy and Joel Oulette as Tommy.
Howell has worked in horror before, with credits including Curse of Chucky, Cult of Chucky, Hunter Hunter, Spirit in the Blood, Time Cut, Harland Manor and Channel Zero.
Sloyan has a long track record with Flanagan. She previously appeared in his projects The Haunting of Hill House, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass and Hush.
How many times has Carrie been adapted?
King’s novel first became a film in 1976, in an Oscar-nominated adaptation. It was followed by a 1999 sequel, a 2002 television film and a 2013 remake.
The Prime Video version was first reported to be in development in October 2024. Amazon officially ordered the series in April 2025, setting up Flanagan’s eight-part version as the latest trip to one of horror’s most infamous high schools.
