Children of Blood and Bone trailer brings Orïsha to the big screen
Paramount has released the Children of Blood and Bone trailer ahead of the fantasy film’s Jan. 15, 2027 theatrical debut.

Paramount has dropped the Children of Blood and Bone trailer, giving the first big-screen look at Tomi Adeyemi’s fantasy world before the movie opens in theaters on Jan. 15, 2027.
The film adapts Adeyemi’s 2018 novel, which is set in Orïsha, a fictional African kingdom where magic has been taken from the people. According to the studio’s logline, the story follows a young woman who sets out to restore that stolen power, joined by her brother and two royal siblings as they resist the king’s violent rule.
Thuso Mbedu leads the cast as Zelie, who is introduced in the trailer as a woman able to command spirits of the dead. The kingdom is split into clans with different magical gifts, but under King Saran, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, magic is being crushed.
Who is in the Children of Blood and Bone cast?
The cast is packed. Damson Idris plays Prince Inan, Amandla Stenberg plays Princess Amari, and Tosin Cole plays Tzain, Zelie’s brother.
Regina King appears as Queen Nehanda, while Lashana Lynch, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo and Viola Davis are also part of the supporting ensemble.
Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the movie. It also reunites her with Mbedu, Davis and Lynch, who all appeared in her 2022 film The Woman King.

Children of Blood and Bone is a fantasy story about a young woman trying to bring magic back to her people after it was violently stripped away. The movie’s central conflict pits Zelie and her allies against King Saran’s rule in Orïsha.
Adeyemi’s book became a major publishing breakout when it debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list, according to Variety. She followed it with Children of Virtue and Vengeance in 2019, then finished the trilogy with Children of Anguish and Anarchy in 2024.

Variety reported that the movie filmed in several locations across the African continent. Prince-Bythewood wanted the cast to work against real settings while turning Adeyemi’s magical story into a film that still felt grounded, according to the report.
With the trailer now out, Paramount has begun the final long runway for one of fantasy publishing’s best-known recent adaptations, led by a cast that spans Oscar winners, blockbuster veterans and rising stars.
