Prosecutors say key D4vd murder case evidence is still missing, including the alleged weapon, two of Celeste Rivas’ fingers, cell phones and security video from the singer’s Hollywood Hills home.
The list came out during a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors described what investigators have gathered so far and what they say remains out of reach. A judge ruled there was enough evidence for D4vd to stand trial for murder, according to TMZ.
What evidence is missing in the D4vd murder case?
According to prosecutors, investigators have not recovered Celeste’s left ring finger, which they allege had a tattoo of D4vd’s name, or her pinky finger. Prosecutors also said the object allegedly used to kill her has not been found, and they do not know exactly what sharp object was used.
Prosecutors said D4vd had possession at some point of the two fingers, a shovel, a blue Makita 10-inch chainsaw and a fire mat. They described those items as evidence investigators still do not have.
The missing list also includes both Celeste’s phone and D4vd’s phone, Celeste’s purse, and security footage from D4vd’s Hollywood Hills home. Prosecutors said the unavailable video covers 10:10 p.m. to 10:31 p.m. on April 23, 2025, the time window when they allege Celeste was murdered.
Prosecutors said data and records show D4vd had possession of the missing evidence. They also said investigators received the case months after the alleged killing, which made some items harder to find or trace.
What prosecutors say they already have
Investigators have presented other material they say supports the case, including text messages between D4vd and Celeste and photos of the 14-year-old’s body, according to TMZ. Prosecutors indicated the unrecovered items could help answer questions about what happened before Celeste’s alleged murder.
TMZ has reported that prosecutors claim D4vd lured Celeste to his home, fatally stabbed her, dismembered her body and placed her remains in two bags. Those bags were later discovered inside his Tesla, according to the report.
D4vd is charged with one count each of murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains. He has pleaded not guilty.
The ruling sends the case toward trial despite the evidence prosecutors say is still missing. The charges remain allegations, and prosecutors will have to prove their case in court.
