David Oyelowo is joining Little Five, the indie cycling film backed by Anne Hathaway’s Somewhere Pictures and Pigasus Pictures, Deadline reported Monday.
The Selma and Lawmen: Bass Reeves star has been added to the lead cast alongside the previously announced Ariana Greenblatt and Rain Spencer, according to Deadline. The report said the film is directed by Ian Samuels and written by Gillian Williams.
Deadline also reported several more cast additions: Sasha Frolova will play Ingrid, Nadia Alexander will play Josie, Drew Powell will play Will, and Max Cortezi will play TFG.
What is Little Five about?
Little Five is inspired by the Little 500 cycling race at Indiana University, according to Deadline. The film follows a group of young women who challenge tradition, form an unlikely team and push themselves through resilience, friendship and grit.
The Little 500 is a long-running collegiate cycling race associated with Indiana University. In the film’s telling, the race becomes the backdrop for a story about women in college athletics and the risks and ambitions that define their team.
Deadline reported that the movie aims to capture an era of big dreams, bold choices, memorable music and women helping reshape collegiate sports.
Who does David Oyelowo play in Little Five?
Oyelowo will play Randall, described by Deadline as a former cycling champion whose own ambitions were cut short. Randall is pulled back toward the sport reluctantly and becomes an unexpected mentor to a new group of athletes.
According to Deadline, the role also puts Randall face to face with his own unfinished story, as his guidance helps shape the next generation on the bike.
The film’s producers include Zachary Spicer for Pigasus Pictures. Hathaway, Adam Shulman and Johnathan Rice are producing for Somewhere Pictures, Deadline reported.
Oyelowo’s recent work includes the Paramount+ Western series Lawmen: Bass Reeves, where he stars as the title character and also serves as a co-producer. Deadline noted that he is also widely known for his award-winning performance as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma.
His other credits cited by Deadline include the Apple TV+ drama Silo and the films The Butler and The Book of Clarence. The report said Oyelowo is represented by CAA, Hamilton Hodell and Del Shaw.
