Elsinore with Andrew Scott lands Focus Features fall release
Focus Features has acquired North and Latin American rights to Elsinore, setting Andrew Scott’s drama for a Nov. 20 limited debut.

Focus Features is putting Elsinore Andrew Scott on the fall movie calendar, with Deadline reporting that the studio has acquired North American and Latin American rights to the Simon Stone film from Studiocanal.
The rollout begins with a limited release on Nov. 20, according to Deadline, before the movie widens over Thanksgiving and continues expanding through December.
Studiocanal, which is handling worldwide sales, will keep the film in several of its own markets. Deadline reported those include the U.K., France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand, with Italy handled by Lucky Red.
When is Elsinore coming out?
Elsinore is set to open in limited release on Nov. 20, then expand during the Thanksgiving corridor and across December, according to Deadline. That puts the Andrew Scott-led drama squarely in the year-end window often used for prestige releases.
What is Elsinore about?
The film tells the true story of Ian Charleson, described by Deadline as a gifted actor whose personal crisis becomes tied to a landmark stage performance at London’s National Theatre.
Scott plays Charleson, who confronts his mortality while delivering a performance that, according to Deadline’s description of the film, becomes a source of comfort and inspiration for people around him.
Stone directs from a screenplay by Stephen Beresford, whose credits include Pride. Stone previously directed The Daughter and The Dig.
The cast is stacked. Alongside Scott, Deadline lists Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, David Dawson, Monica Dolan, Matthew Beard, Joe Locke, Georgie Glen, Sadie Soverall, Adeel Akhtar, Dickie Beau, Juliet Stevenson and Peter Mullan.
The film is produced by Studiocanal, LD Entertainment, Lucky Red and Magnolia Mae Films.
Deadline identified the producers as Andrea Occhipinti of Lucky Red, Gabrielle Tana and Carolyn Marks Blackwood of Magnolia Mae Films, Pete Shilaimon and Mickey Liddell of LD Entertainment, and Stefano Massenzi and Scott.
What else does Focus Features have coming?
Elsinore joins a Focus Features slate that Deadline said also includes Robert Eggers’ Christmas Day release Werwulf, Paul Greengrass’ The Uprising, and Georgia Oakley’s new version of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility.
The acquisition gives Focus another actor-forward drama for the final stretch of the year, with Scott leading a large British and Irish ensemble and Stone returning to feature directing after The Dig.
