Evan Rachel Wood Practical Magic 2 questions finally have an answer: the actor says the upcoming sequel is heading in a different story direction, leaving her original character out of the mix.
According to TMZ, Wood addressed her absence Monday night at a “Spider-Man” premiere after previously saying she wanted to return for the follow-up to the Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock ’90s film.
Wood said the new movie is taking a different route from the book, which meant there was no place for her character, TMZ reported. She did not announce a new role or suggest she would appear in another capacity.

Wood’s explanation, as reported by TMZ, is that “Practical Magic 2” is moving away from the book’s direction. Because of that shift, her character was not brought back for the sequel.
The sequel was announced last year. At that time, Wood said she had been left out despite telling the filmmakers she was eager to reprise her part, according to TMZ.
In the first “Practical Magic,” Wood played the daughter of Sandra Bullock’s character, who was described by TMZ as a widowed witch and single mother. The original film also starred Nicole Kidman.
Plot details for the sequel have not been laid out in the report. TMZ said it remains unclear exactly where the new film will take the story.
Who else from the original cast is missing?
Wood is not the only original cast member absent from the sequel. Aidan Quinn, who played Gary Hallett, the love interest of Bullock’s character, is also not in the film, according to TMZ.
Wood’s public response was cordial. TMZ reported that she wished the movie success, even though she had previously made clear she wanted to come back.
The sequel still carries major star power through its connection to the Kidman and Bullock film that built the “Practical Magic” fan base. For Wood’s part, the answer is now plain: her character did not fit the direction the new movie chose to take.
