An Iowa truck crash video released by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office shows a Dodge Ram entering an intersection and colliding with a tractor-trailer on Monday, a wreck authorities say left three vehicles totaled.
The crash happened at the intersection of W Avenue and Highway 3 in Iowa, according to the sheriff’s office. Dashcam footage from another semi that was waiting to turn shows the tractor-trailer traveling along the road as the Dodge Ram comes in from the right side of the frame.
The video shows the Dodge Ram moving toward a stop sign before entering the intersection. The Ram then crosses into the path of the tractor-trailer, and the semi strikes the truck in the front section of its cab.
What happened in the Iowa truck crash video?
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Dodge Ram and tractor-trailer also collided with a Chevy Impala that was stopped at a stop sign out of view of the dashcam. The sheriff’s office said the Dodge Ram, the tractor-trailer and the Chevy Impala were all “a total loss.”
In crash reporting, a vehicle described as a total loss is considered damaged so severely that repairing it is not practical compared with its value. Authorities did not give repair estimates or further details about the damage to each vehicle.
The angle of the video comes from a separate semi at the intersection, giving a clear view of the moment before impact. The stopped Chevy Impala was not visible in the main dashcam angle, according to the sheriff’s office account.
Who was taken to the hospital?
The Dodge Ram driver, a passenger in the Ram and the tractor-trailer driver were taken to Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities did not provide details on the severity of any injuries. The sheriff’s office also did not say how the driver of the Chevy Impala was doing after the crash.
The sheriff’s office released photos from the scene showing heavy damage after the collision. The images show the aftermath across the involved vehicles, matching the agency’s statement that all three were total losses.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Officials did not announce any citations or charges in the information released.
