The new John Wells deal keeps the Emmy-winning producer at Warner Bros. Television, with Deadline reporting that he has signed an overall agreement extension as he marks 40 years at the studio.
Warner Bros. Television did not disclose the terms. Deadline, citing sources, reported that the extension is for three years, begins next year and runs through mid-2030. The report said its value is believed to be in the range of Wells' current three-year extension, which followed the five-year, nine-figure overall pact he signed in 2019.

An overall deal keeps a producer or production company based at a studio to create and develop projects. Under the new pact, Deadline reported, Wells will keep making original series through John Wells Productions for platforms including HBO, HBO Max, outside streaming services and U.S. broadcast networks.
Wells has been tied to Warner Bros. Television for nearly his entire TV career. Deadline reported that he joined the studio in 1986 as a story editor and described him as the studio's longest-serving producer.
The renewal lands during an uncertain corporate stretch for the studio. Warner Bros. Discovery is in the process of being acquired by David Ellison-led Paramount, according to Deadline, and the studio has already seen Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson leave for Disney's 20th Television after her overall deal expired earlier this summer.

Wells' current Warner Bros. Television roster is led by The Pitt, the HBO Max medical drama he executive produces with fellow ER veterans R. Scott Gemmill and Noah Wyle, who also stars.
Deadline reported that The Pitt's second season is HBO Max's most-watched series of any type this year, with each week's audience beating the first season. The drama is also the reigning Outstanding Drama Series Emmy winner and leads the 2026 Emmy nominations with 25, including Drama Series.
The show has also become a calling card for a hybrid TV approach: a 15-episode order, a yearly release pattern and a modest budget paired with streaming-style storytelling, according to Deadline.
What has John Wells made at Warner Bros.?
Across four decades, Wells has executive produced Warner Bros. Television series including ER, The West Wing, Southland, Shameless, Third Watch and Animal Kingdom. Deadline reported that those shows have collected more than 300 Emmy nominations, 70 Emmy wins and seven Peabody Awards.
His current Warner Bros. Television slate also includes two Netflix projects. Wells executive produces Untamed, the Eric Bana series that was renewed for a second season after breaking out as a limited series and recently wrapped production, according to Deadline.
He is also showrunner and executive producer on Unaccustomed Earth, Netflix's adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri's short story collection. Deadline reported that the series is due later this year.
Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks, praised Wells in a statement, calling him "an iconic storyteller" and saying the company is "immensely proud" that he has spent 40 years at Warner Bros.
