Kim Zolciak has paid a court-ordered bill tied to her long-running divorce case with Kroy Biermann, removing the immediate threat that she could be jailed over the unpaid amount, according to TMZ.
TMZ, citing new legal documents it obtained, reported that a Georgia judge ordered the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member to pay $2,535 in outstanding fees to the guardian ad litem assigned to the divorce proceedings.
The court order said Zolciak could have faced incarceration if the money was not paid by next month, according to TMZ. Sources familiar with the matter told the outlet that Zolciak paid the full amount on Tuesday, July 14.
Guardian was assigned to custody issues
The guardian ad litem was appointed in the divorce case involving Zolciak and Biermann, who are fighting over custody and support, TMZ reported. According to the outlet, the judge had previously directed the guardian to interview Zolciak, Biermann and their four minor children as part of the custody review.
Guardian ad litems are commonly appointed in family court matters to give the court information about children’s best interests. In this case, TMZ reported that the guardian’s work has become another flashpoint in an already bitter legal battle.
Zolciak has previously taken issue with the guardian, according to TMZ. The outlet reported that she claimed the guardian was not properly considering her allegations of abuse and her concerns about Biermann’s parenting.
Biermann has made his own claims in the case. TMZ reported that he alleged the children were experiencing mental abuse from Zolciak. He also claimed Zolciak believed the guardian was targeting her, an assertion he rejected as false, according to the outlet.
Divorce battle has dragged on
Zolciak and Biermann have been fighting in court for years over custody and support issues, TMZ reported. The former couple’s divorce has repeatedly spilled into public view through filings and claims made in the case.
The latest payment resolves the specific issue of the unpaid guardian fees, based on TMZ’s reporting, but it does not end the broader custody and support fight.
The family tensions have also surfaced outside the courtroom. TMZ recently reported that Zolciak’s adult daughter, Brielle Biermann, said she has not spoken with Kroy Biermann in some time and was unsure whether he would attend her upcoming wedding.
Zolciak rose to reality-TV fame on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” while Biermann is a former NFL player. Their split has since become a drawn-out legal fight, with the court continuing to weigh issues involving their minor children.
