Laufey signs with UTA at a high-gloss moment in her rise: the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is now represented worldwide by United Talent Agency in all areas, the company announced Monday.
UTA said it will work on opportunities for Laufey across live touring, media, filmed entertainment, brand partnerships and other areas. The deal puts the Chinese-Icelandic artist’s widening career under one agency umbrella as her music keeps pulling pop fans toward a more old-school jazz sound.
What does Laufey's UTA deal cover?
According to UTA, the agreement is for global representation in all areas. That means the agency will seek work and partnerships for Laufey beyond records, including concerts, screen projects, media appearances and brand deals.
The signing lands while Laufey is on a major international tour tied to her 2025 album, A Matter of Time. The tour includes dates across North America, the U.K., Europe, Asia and Oceania, according to the announcement reported by Variety.
A Matter of Time reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Her 2023 second full-length album, Bewitched, also won in that same Grammy category.
Laufey’s appeal has been built on a blend of pop songwriting and traditional jazz influence, a mix that has introduced a vintage-leaning sound to younger listeners. Variety described her as a fast-rising artist and noted the sharp guitar skills that sit inside her music, even as she has resisted a tidy label.
How Laufey describes her sound
In a 2024 interview with Variety, Laufey said she does not fully call herself a jazz artist because not all of her songs fit squarely inside the genre. She said some of her songs, including tracks on Bewitched, would sit comfortably in a jazz setting, while a straight pop label would not feel exact either.
She also told Variety that she grew up listening mostly to classical and jazz music, and that jazz shaped her singing. Laufey said she trained as a jazz singer and called topping that chart an honor, especially with a young audience that does not typically listen to jazz.
Her recent honors stretch beyond the Grammy stage. Iceland President Halla Tómasdóttir awarded Laufey the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Falcon, described as Iceland’s highest national distinction for citizens who have made major contributions to the country’s cultural, artistic and international standing.
Time also named Laufey one of its 2025 women of the year. Variety honored her at its 2024 Hitmakers event with the Crossover Artist of the Year award.
With UTA now handling representation across the board, Laufey’s next steps can reach well past the concert hall, while her current tour keeps the Grammy-winning A Matter of Time campaign moving around the world.
