A Lil Wayne racehorse just gave the rapper and Lil Yachty a serious day at the track: Listenupshance won the $400,000 Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, TMZ reported.
The 4-year-old gelding is owned by Run Fast Racing, a celebrity-backed racing company whose group includes Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty, Rauw Alejandro and entrepreneur Glenn Sorgenstein, according to TMZ. The company was founded by entertainment entrepreneur Adam Kluger.
Listenupshance’s win on Saturday also came with a prize beyond the purse. TMZ reported the victory earned him a fees-paid place in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Keeneland on October 31.
What did Lil Wayne’s racehorse win?
According to TMZ, Listenupshance captured the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes, a six-furlong race at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club with a $400,000 purse. The outlet reported it was the first Grade 1 victory of the horse’s career.
Jockey Emisael Jaramillo rode Listenupshance, while Doug O’Neill trained him, TMZ reported. The horse stayed close to the front of the field, moved into the lead and held off Maximum Bourbon by a nose, according to the outlet.
TMZ reported Listenupshance finished the six-furlong race in 1:09. The close finish gave Jaramillo his first Grade 1 win in the United States, the outlet said.
Who is behind Run Fast Racing?
Run Fast Racing is the ownership group behind Listenupshance, TMZ reported. Its celebrity names include Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty and Rauw Alejandro, along with Sorgenstein and founder Kluger.
The company also gives fans a way into the ownership experience for $100 per month, according to TMZ. The outlet reported Run Fast Racing has distributed nearly $60,000 in winnings to owners through its Direct Pay program.
Listenupshance did not come into Del Mar cold. TMZ reported the gelding’s previous start was a third-place finish in the Grade 3 True North Stakes at Saratoga.
The Bing Crosby result now sends him toward a bigger national stage. With the fees-paid Breeders’ Cup Sprint berth secured, Listenupshance is lined up for Keeneland on October 31, according to TMZ.
