For anyone looking for the mooch movie release date, Jeff Ryan’s golf crime comedy now has one: Freestyle Digital Media has acquired “Mooch” and will put the film on digital platforms beginning Aug. 14, Variety reported.
The film was written and directed by Ryan, who also stars. Freestyle Digital Media, the Byron Allen-owned distributor, is handling the digital rollout, while Ryan will keep the theatrical rights through his First-Names Films, according to Variety.
That means “Mooch” is getting a two-track release. It will arrive online first through Freestyle, while Ryan’s company plans to take the movie out for a national roadshow made up of one-night theater events.

“Mooch” is scheduled to debut on digital platforms on Aug. 14, Variety reported. A separate national run of one-night screenings is also planned, though specific dates and venues were not listed in the report.
The theatrical roadshow is being developed with Emo Nite and will include live performances from artists on the film’s soundtrack, according to the report. The filmmakers described the plan in a statement as a hybrid built for the movie’s audience, combining a screening, concert elements and a reunion-style event for fans who grew up around Warped Tour culture.

“Mooch” follows Shane, described in Variety’s report as the oldest caddy at his local golf club. The character gets pulled into a job collecting damaging information for a charismatic nightclub owner from New Jersey.

The cast includes Scott Cohen, Katerina Tannenbaum, Geneva Carr, Molly Brown, Ashby Gentry, Will Chase, Louis Cancelmi, Olli Haaskivii, Ian Dolley, Natalie Roy and Oscar Williams, according to Variety.
The acquisition puts “Mooch” in Freestyle Digital Media’s digital pipeline while leaving room for Ryan to handle the event-style theatrical side himself.
