Naomi Watts’ Spider-Man role is finally out in the open: the actor voices E.V., Peter Parker’s artificial-intelligence assistant in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, according to Variety and JoBlo.
Watts confirmed the previously unannounced voice part in an Instagram post celebrating the film. She shared an image from a remote recording session, with director Destin Daniel Cretton visible on a screen behind her, the outlets reported.
“From playing your mom to playing your AI (100% human made),” Watts wrote, addressing Tom Holland. She also congratulated Holland, Cretton and the film’s team, saying she was proud to have had even a small part in it.

Watts is the voice of E.V., the AI assistant used by Holland’s Peter Parker. Audiences hear Watts in the movie rather than see her on screen, JoBlo reported.
The casting creates a full-circle reunion for the two actors. Watts and Holland appeared together in 2012’s The Impossible, in which Holland played her son. The disaster drama follows a family separated during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, according to Variety.
The new collaboration arrives 14 years after that film, based on the 2012 release year and the August 2026 reports about Brand New Day. Some early coverage called it a 12-year gap, but the dates put the reunion two years later than that.
The Impossible was Holland’s first live-action feature role, Variety reported, while Watts earned a best-actress Oscar nomination for her performance. Holland later told Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast that Watts showed him how a top professional works on a set and took him under her wing during the production.
Watts’ post makes the reveal a spoiler-sensitive one for moviegoers who have not yet seen Spider-Man: Brand New Day. For those who have, E.V.’s voice now comes with a neat bit of movie history: Holland’s former on-screen mother has returned as the voice in Peter Parker’s ear.
