Outer Banks season 5 trailer tears into Pougelandia before final bow
Netflix’s new trailer teases a battered final Pogue hunt, an Aug. 20 binge release and an Aug. 15 farewell event with the cast.

Netflix’s new Outer Banks season 5 trailer sends the Pogues into their last storm with a bulldozer ripping through what appears to be Pougelandia 2.0, another brutal hit after earlier footage showed Cleo blowing up John B.’s van.
The final season footage keeps the crew in survival mode. John B., played by Chase Stokes, tells Sarah, played by Madelyn Cline, that they have hit bottom before saying there is nothing left for them where they are. The trailer also keeps one notable thread offscreen: Sarah’s pregnancy is not mentioned in the new preview.
When does Outer Banks season 5 come out?
Netflix will release Outer Banks season 5 on Aug. 20 as a binge drop, according to the streamer’s announcement. Five days earlier, the cast will gather in Los Angeles for Pogues For Life: A Fan Farewell Event With The Cast Of Outer Banks.
The Aug. 15 event will serve as a follow-up to Netflix’s Pougelandia fan events. It will include the first Pogue Awards, a fan-voted Outer Banks awards show built around standout moments from the series’ five-season run.
After the awards, Stokes, Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant and Drew Starkey are scheduled to appear for a cast conversation. Netflix said the event will also include a screening of the first episode of the final season and will stream live on Tudum.com.
What does the new Outer Banks trailer reveal?
The trailer centers the fallout from JJ’s death, with Kiara, played by Bailey, still grieving her boyfriend after the events involving Chandler Groff. Pope, played by Daviss, says Kiara has been carrying books about a magic crown, and Kiara says the legend claims the crown can bring back the dead.
That crown is the Blue Crown, which JJ’s biological father, Chandler Groff, took before killing him in front of Kiara, according to the season setup. Deadline reported that no information has been released about Rudy Pankow returning for the final season.
Netflix’s season description says the Pogues begin the final chapter stranded away from home after JJ’s death in Morocco. They have lost the Blue Crown, Groff remains at large, Dalia and the Corsairs are closing in, and the Kooks have made sure the group has no safe home waiting for them.
The streamer says John B., Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo will have to lean on their instincts and form an uneasy alliance with Rafe, played by Starkey. Their mission is to recover their future, avenge JJ and chase the freedom that has powered the series from the start.
Netflix also released new key art and photos from the final season, including images from episodes 502 through 509 featuring Groff, John B., Sarah, Kiara, Pope, Cleo and Rafe. Outer Banks was created by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, who also serve as executive producers.
