Rachel Griffiths’ Halfway Home casting puts the Six Feet Under and Muriel’s Wedding actor in Binge’s next visit to the Wentworth world. Deadline reports that Griffiths will play Moira, a newly paroled resident of Sal’s Halfway House, in the Australian drama due later in 2026.
Sophie Lowe has also joined Wentworth: Halfway Home, while three familiar faces from the original series are back: Katrina Milosevic as Susan “Boomer” Jenkins, Nicole da Silva as Franky Doyle and Kate Box as Lou Kelly, according to Deadline.
Who is Rachel Griffiths playing in Wentworth: Halfway Home?
Griffiths plays Moira, who arrives at the house after serving three years of a five-year sentence for fraud, according to the show synopsis reported by Deadline. The character had moved from beauty therapy into a high-society second marriage, only for her late husband’s fortune to unravel as a fraud.
Griffiths said Moira would shake up life at the house and that she was looking forward to joining the cast and creative team in the Wentworth world.
Lowe’s character, Sam, is described in the synopsis as a people-pleaser on parole. Her backstory involves an obsession following a broken relationship that led to a break-in and assault.
What is Wentworth: Halfway Home about?
The spin-off moves the action to Sal’s Halfway House. Boomer arrives after being paroled and is determined to seek custody of her daughter, but the discovery of a body fuels suspicion among the residents, Deadline reports.
Alex King, playing Dee, and Chenile Chandler, playing Lily, had previously been announced for the ensemble. The newcomers join returning characters, rather than a wholly new set of residents.
Production is underway in Melbourne. Fremantle Australia is producing the series, with Carly Heaton and Brett Popplewell serving as executive producers, Jess Paine as co-executive producer and Dean O’Toole as producer. Gracie Otto is the set-up director, according to Deadline.
When will Wentworth: Halfway Home be released?
Binge and DAZN-owned Foxtel plan to debut the series later in 2026, Deadline reports. No specific premiere date has been announced.
The original Wentworth premiered on Foxtel in 2013. It ran for eight seasons as a reimagining of Prisoner and was sold into more than 170 territories, according to Deadline.
