Rowan Blanchard joins Millicent Hailes’ dark comedy The Drill
Deadline reports the actor will star in The Drill, a Texas-shot dark comedy about a high school drill team trapped during an active shooter lockdown.

Rowan Blanchard has signed on to star in The Drill, a dark comedy from director Millicent Hailes that is scheduled to begin filming in Texas next week, according to Deadline.
The film, written by Keatyn Lee, follows a high school drill team stuck inside a gym during an active shooter lockdown, Deadline reported. No additional cast members or release plans were announced in the report.
Hailes is directing after making her feature debut with Perfect, an indie drama starring Julia Fox and Ashley Moore that premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, according to Deadline. The outlet also noted her music video work for artists including Lil Yachty and Adam Lambert.
Who is behind The Drill
Deadline reported that the producing team includes Vince Jolivette, whose credits include Spring Breakers and The Disaster Artist, along with Tyler Payne, Jiarui Guo and Douglass Riggs.
Payne and Riggs are both credited by Deadline with Perfect and Speed the Plow. Guo’s credits listed by the outlet include The Brutalist and Family Movie.
The project brings Blanchard to another screen role as her work in Hulu’s The Testaments continues to raise her profile. Deadline described that series as a spin-off and sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.
Blanchard’s recent run
In The Testaments, Blanchard plays Shunammite “Shunam” Hayes, a young woman brought up inside the elite circles of Gilead, the near-future theocratic dictatorship at the center of the franchise, according to Deadline.
The series is led by Chase Infiniti, known for One Battle After Another, and premiered in April, Deadline reported. The outlet said The Testaments has already been renewed for a second season.
Blanchard’s other screen credits listed by Deadline include TNT’s Snowpiercer, where she appeared opposite Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs, as well as Hulu’s Crush, Peacock’s Poker Face, Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time and a recurring role on ABC’s The Goldbergs.
Deadline reported that Blanchard has about 15 years of screen experience while still in her early 20s. The outlet listed her representation as Paradigm, Untitled Entertainment and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
Hailes is represented by Luber Roklin Entertainment, according to Deadline.
