San Sebastian 2026 lineup adds Mike Leigh and Pablo Larraín titles

The San Sebastian 2026 lineup has added Mike Leigh’s new feature Tender Loving Care and Pablo Larraín’s series My Sad Dead, the festival announced as it expanded its Official Selection.

The festival runs from September 18 to 26. The newly named titles join nine films that had already been announced for the section, including Roberto Bueso’s El mal padre, Mikel Gurrea’s Sants / Saints and Javier Ruiz Caldera’s 5 minutos más / 5 more minutes.

What is in the San Sebastian 2026 lineup?

Leigh’s Tender Loving Care will reach San Sebastian after its world premiere at TIFF. The cast listed for the United Kingdom, USA and Singapore production includes Marion Bailey, Paul Jesson, Kate O’Flynn and Alice Bailey Johnson.

San Sebastian and TIFF have not posted a plot summary for the film. The festival listing says Leigh, a Cannes Palme d’Or winner and Academy Award nominee, continues his examination of the contemporary world with the project.

Larraín’s Mis muertos tristes / My Sad Dead will screen at San Sebastian as a feature-length version and will have its world premiere there. The Argentina and Chile production stars Mercedes Morán, Dolores Fonzi and Carolina Álvarez.

According to the festival, My Sad Dead is based on work by Mariana Enríquez and follows Ema, a woman who can see and hear people who have died. After Ema’s mother dies, her niece Julie arrives, and the two share the same unsettling ability as old family wounds return.

Nicole Garcia is also in the selection with 7:40 ce matin-là / Milo, a France production starring Marion Cotillard, Théodore Pellerin, Artus, Laure Calamy, Alexis Manenti, Anne Brochet, Eric Elmosnino and Charles Berling. The story centers on Alice, who arrives in a provincial town and takes a café job while trying to get close to Milo, a young mechanic connected to her past.

Norwegian filmmaker Hans Petter Moland returns to the Official Selection with Markens Grode / Growth of the Soil, based on Knut Hamsun’s Nobel Prize-winning novel. The Norway, Denmark and Germany production stars Herbert Nordrum, Asta Kamma August and Gard B. Eidsvold, and follows Isak and Inger as they build a life on harsh northern land.

• Artakalan / What Remains, directed by Yeşim Ustaoğlu, is a Turkey, France, Luxembourg and Bulgaria production starring Öykü Karayel, Metin Akdülger, Ali Kayra Kul and İlyas Salman. The festival synopsis follows a poet who breaks from a stifling home life and reconsiders family and purpose.
• Glaxo, directed by Benjamín Naishtat, is a Brazil and Argentina production with Lali Espósito, Marcelo Subiotto, Esteban Bigliardi, Esteban Lamothe, Manu Fanego and Alan Sabbagh. Its story begins in Chivilcoy in 1957, where a former police commissioner and his wife disrupt four close friends.
• Muyou no hito / In My Father’s Room, directed by Maha Harada, is a Japanese production starring Yu Aoi, Issey Ogata, Eita Nagayama and Eri Watanabe. It follows Satomi after a mysterious key leads her to a room once used by her late father.
