Seth Green has picked his Dungeon Crawler Carl dream gig, and he is not being subtle about it.
The Family Guy actor and Robot Chicken co-creator told Variety he thinks he would be a strong fit for Mordecai, a mentor figure in Matt Dinniman’s cult-favorite book series, which Peacock ordered as a live-action TV show last month.
Green’s interest first caught fans’ eyes after he posted Instagram art showing several versions of Mordecai. In the caption, he asked followers to name their favorite Dungeon Crawler Carl character and said he was “a Mordecai guy” himself. Fans also spotted that he had tagged Dinniman, Seth MacFarlane and MacFarlane’s production company Fuzzy Door.
That was, more or less, a public nudge. Speaking to Variety during an interview tied to his role as an advisory board member for the Global Gaming League, Green said his wife, Clare Grant, had been reading chapters of the latest book, A Parade of Horribles, before it reached Patreon.
Green said he has known about the series for a long time and is aware that Fuzzy Door is involved. MacFarlane is also a longtime friend and collaborator of his.
“I guess I’m just making it known that I think I would make a really good Mordecai,” Green told Variety. He added that he does not know the creative team’s plan and said nobody has spoken with him about the role.
The actor also told Variety that, despite knowing MacFarlane and Dinniman, he does not want to rely on personal relationships to get the part. He said a visible push from fans would be the most persuasive route, describing the ideal boost as a “thick fan movement” of people agreeing he could play Mordecai.
What Peacock is making
Peacock’s Dungeon Crawler Carl adaptation is being written by Chris Yost, whose credits include The Mandalorian. Dinniman and Fuzzy Door are producing the series, according to Variety.
The show’s premise follows Carl, a Coast Guard veteran, after an alien invasion kills much of humanity. The remaining survivors are thrown into a brutal intergalactic game show, where Carl is paired with Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend’s award-winning show cat.
In the books’ wild setup, Carl and Princess Donut must deal with monsters, aliens, other survivors and a deranged artificial intelligence while the apocalypse becomes entertainment for viewers.
No cast members have been announced for the Peacock project. Variety reported that fans are looking for more news when Dinniman appears at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
For now, Green is leaving his pitch out in the open: he is a fan, he wants Mordecai, and he would rather the Dungeon Crawler Carl crowd help carry the banner.
