Shabana Azeez joins Unrequited romance from Lynn Q. Yu
The Pitt actor will play Anjali in Lynn Q. Yu’s California food-road-trip romance, with production planned for next spring.

Shabana Azeez joins Unrequited, a new romance from writer-director Lynn Q. Yu, with the HBO actor set to play Anjali, Deadline reported.
Azeez is known to TV viewers as Dr. Victoria Javadi on The Pitt, HBO’s Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning medical drama set inside the emergency department of the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.
What is Unrequited about?
According to Deadline, Unrequited follows Trish and Anjali, former college roommates whose relationship once went beyond friendship. After Trish discovers that Anjali is planning to leave the United States and go back to India, she brings her on a farewell trip through California built around the state’s many cuisines.
The trip has a mission beyond good food: Trish wants to persuade Anjali to stay. Azeez will play Anjali, Deadline reported.
The film is based on an original screenplay by Yu and will mark Yu’s debut as a director. Production is scheduled to begin in California next spring, according to Deadline.
Who is making Unrequited?
Deadline reported that Jake Casey, whose credits include Hallowarrior, and Danielle Benedict, whose credits include Heightened Scrutiny, are producing through The Dazey Phase. John Gray of It’s Not Pork is also producing.
Rich Freeman and Rick Berg are executive producing for Code Entertainment, whose credits include The Mongoose, according to Deadline.
Yu told Deadline that the team was thrilled to work with Azeez and described the role as a chance for audiences to see the actor in a different light. Yu said the part blends humor, sensuality and charm.
What else has Lynn Q. Yu made?
Yu is also associated with Perfect Girl, the K-pop thriller adapted from her 2023 Black List script Unnie. Deadline reported that the film shot in Thailand late last year and is expected to be released in 2027.
For Azeez, Unrequited adds another screen project after her role on The Pitt. Deadline also noted that the Australian actor appeared opposite Succession star Sarah Snook in the Netflix thriller Run Rabbit Run.
Azeez also has the SBS drama The Airport Chaplain among her coming projects, according to Deadline. She is represented by Stride Management, CP Artist Management, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
