Christopher Griffith, the man accusing Stefon Diggs of sexual assault, says his lawsuit against the NFL player is not an attempt to squeeze him for money.
Griffith addressed the claim in an interview with TMZ on Friday, as his legal fight with Diggs continues and after Cardi B weighed in on social media this week.
According to TMZ, Griffith said the dispute landed in court because of what he described as Diggs’ “refusal to tell the truth.” He said he is prepared for the case to play out before a judge.
Asked about Diggs calling him a liar, Griffith pushed back directly. “I don’t know why liars lie, but if a liar told me I was lying, I wouldn’t believe them,” he told TMZ.
Griffith also responded to Cardi B’s involvement after TMZ reported she criticized him online. Griffith told the outlet he believed Cardi had accepted the word of a “liar,” which he called unfortunate.
The legal fight between Diggs and Griffith has been building for months. TMZ previously reported that Diggs sued Griffith for defamation over claims Griffith made on social media about the alleged assault.
Griffith later countersued, according to TMZ, alleging Diggs drugged and sexually assaulted him at Diggs’ home in Maryland in 2023. Those allegations remain claims in civil litigation.
Diggs has denied Griffith’s accusations, according to TMZ’s reporting, and has accused Griffith of lying. The outlet reported that the NFL player brought the defamation case after Griffith made public statements about the alleged incident.
Griffith told TMZ someone needs to be held responsible for what he says happened to him. He also rejected the idea that he is pursuing the case as a payday, saying he has not demanded a specific dollar amount.
The case has also drawn attention because of Cardi B, who entered the dispute with comments about Griffith on social media, according to TMZ. Griffith’s response keeps the public back-and-forth going while the court cases remain unresolved.
No court ruling on the competing claims was reported by TMZ. The allegations from both sides have yet to be decided in court.
