Summer Days sales reach major markets as ISII starts Amor de Dios

Summer Days sales have put Deep Com Roots on the move, with the Spanish company landing deals across major territories for the Maggie Civantos drama, Variety reported Monday.

The sales news lands as Spain’s ISII Group has started production on Amor de Dios, led by Belén Rueda, and as cameras roll on La Cathédrale, Inefable Productions’ first fully English-language feature with Will Keen and Taz Skylar.

According to Variety, Deep Com Roots has sold Summer Days in Latin America to Brazil’s Sofa Digital, in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to Busch Media Group, and in CIS territories to Kinologistika. Aya Pro has taken Japan, PictureWorks India has acquired Indian rights, and Scene & Sound has picked up South Korea.

What is Summer Days about?

Summer Days, also titled Días de agosto, follows college students Juan and Gabriela as they head to Juan’s family beach house for the summer, according to the film’s description cited by Variety. The romantic drama shifts into darker, charged territory after Juan’s father Fernando arrives with Monica, his much younger girlfriend, played by Civantos.

The cast includes Pau Simón as Juan, Berta Galo as Gabriela, Roberto Álamo as Fernando and Civantos as Monica. Variety reported that Juan’s anger over his father leaving his mother collides with his attraction to Monica as the story tightens into an erotic drama with thriller elements.

Emir Duzel, head of international sales at Deep Com Roots, told Variety that the company’s first trip to the Cannes Market brought strong buyer interest, with Summer Days among the titles that drew the most attention. He said talks are still under way for additional territories.

Summer Days comes from a screenplay by David Sueiro, one of seven fiction winners in ISII Group’s first Break on Time ’59 national screenplay competition in 2024, Variety reported. The film also marks a return to fiction for director Chema del Prado, known for IsiDisi.

Who stars in Amor de Dios?

In Amor de Dios, Rueda plays Sara Lanes, a celebrated dancer and choreographer living in Paris, according to the synopsis reported by Variety. After the Madrid flamenco school Amor de Dios announces it will close, Sara returns with her disciple Ángela to try to save the institution where her career began.

The film, produced by ISII banner Inefable Productions, was inspired at its roots by an original idea from Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura, Variety reported. Its cast also includes Asier Etxeandia, French dancer Soleila Chaou, Spanish National Ballet principal dancer Irene Tena and Tania Santana.

Amor de Dios is scheduled for release in 2027. Variety reported that it is the fiction feature debut of Paula Palacios, winner of the IDA Netflix 2022 Global Emerging Filmmaker Award and a two-time Goya nominee for documentary feature.

What is La Cathédrale?

La Cathédrale is described by ISII Group as a new push for its fiction division, Variety reported. The thriller stars Keen as Thomas, a violinist trying to rebuild his life after his teenage daughter’s murder, and Skylar as the man convicted of killing her.

According to the synopsis, Thomas agrees to take part in a restorative justice process, then finds a mysterious violin among his daughter’s belongings and begins searching for answers. The cast also includes Marta Nieto, Ronald Guttman and Peter Vives.

Variety reported that La Cathédrale is now shooting in the Canary Islands, in Tenerife and Las Palmas. Eduardo Cubillo directs from a script he wrote with José Ortuño.

ISII Group now has four films in production in 2026 and four more released or awaiting release, Variety reported. ISII president Silvia Carvalho told the outlet the company has built a structure spanning development, financing, production, services, distribution and sales, with Deep Com Roots handling its catalog.
