What happened in The Dive Lake Winnipesaukee fire?

The Dive caught fire on Lake Winnipesaukee in Alton, prompting a response from firefighters on the water, according to local Boston outlets. Video from the scene showed the floating business burning as crews fought the fire from fire boats.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating, according to the report. Authorities have not said what sparked the blaze.

Owners say The Dive was destroyed

The owners of The Dive addressed the fire on social media, saying they were “devastated by this loss” after the boat was destroyed. They called it “the hardest day in our journey.”

In the same statement, the owners said their biggest relief was that people escaped safely. “What matters most, though, is that every single person made it off safely,” they wrote, adding that they were grateful and praising authorities for their response.

The owners also reflected on the business’s nine-year run, writing that The Dive may be gone but the community around it remains strong. They thanked customers and friends they said they had met through the restaurant and bar.

A well-known stop on a celebrity-friendly lake

The Dive had built its identity around serving food and drinks to people arriving by boat on Lake Winnipesaukee. TMZ described it as a favorite stop for both locals and celebrities.

Lake Winnipesaukee itself has long been known as a celebrity-friendly destination, with TMZ naming Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore among Hollywood figures connected to the area.

For now, the fire’s cause remains under investigation by the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, and officials have not released the complete scope of the damage.
