The Odyssey box office nears $640M as Toy Story 5 tops $1B

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey box office run is still muscling through cinemas worldwide, with Deadline reporting the Universal release is nearing $640 million globally after a second weekend of $215.3 million.
Deadline said the second global frame was down 18% from the film’s $263.7 million worldwide opening. Imax has been a major engine for the movie, accounting for $140 million of the total so far, or 53%, according to the report.
The big-format numbers were especially loud in weekend two. Deadline reported that The Odyssey, which was shot in Imax, pulled in $48 million worldwide from Imax screens, the highest-grossing second weekend in Imax history.
How much has The Odyssey made at the box office?
Deadline reported that The Odyssey is near $640 million worldwide. Its second weekend brought in $215.3 million globally, including $128.3 million from overseas markets.
The overseas hold was sharp, with Deadline reporting only a 10% drop from the prior weekend. The film also opened in eight CIS markets across 270 screens, including nine Imax locations, earning $2.3 million there, led by Kazakhstan with $1.3 million.
Imax reported $24.1 million from North America in the second weekend, bringing its domestic Imax total to $78 million. Overseas Imax screens added $24 million for the frame, lifting the international Imax running total to $62 million. The 70MM Imax version made $5.2 million worldwide in its second frame and is nearing $17 million overall, with Imax saying most 70MM showtimes are sold out into September.
Where is The Odyssey holding strongest?
Deadline cited a string of No. 1 holds overseas. In the UK and Ireland, the film fell 11% in its second weekend and is near $15 million for the frame, with a running total of $46.3 million.
France delivered $12.3 million and kept the film at No. 1, with a total of $31.8 million. In Italy, Deadline reported $10.5 million for the weekend and nearly $29 million overall, calling it the biggest second weekend ever there for a Hollywood film.
Australia posted $7.9 million in its second frame for a $20.7 million total. Germany brought in $7.8 million for a $20.5 million total, while Mexico slipped just 2% to $7.5 million and reached $19 million overall.
Other reported second-weekend totals included close to $5 million in Spain, $4.6 million in Brazil, $3.6 million in India, nearly $3 million in the Netherlands and $2.7 million in Saudi Arabia. Deadline said The Odyssey is now the biggest MPA title to date in India and Nolan’s second-biggest film there.
Toy Story 5 crosses $1 billion worldwide
Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has become the year’s top-grossing movie with $1.022 billion worldwide, according to Deadline. The report said it is the third film this year to cross $1 billion globally and Disney’s first 2026 release to do so.
Deadline listed Universal’s Michael at $1.015 billion and Super Mario Galaxy Movie at $1.011 billion. The report said Universal could soon have a third billion-dollar global title if The Odyssey keeps climbing.
The summer’s next major box office test is Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Deadline reported that NRG has the film at $195 million in U.S. and Canada tracking, while rival projections put its domestic start at $250 million. For comparison, Deadline noted that 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home opened to $260.1 million domestically and $600.5 million worldwide.
