The Thomas Crown Affair trailer has arrived from Amazon MGM Studios, giving Michael B. Jordan the keys to the art-heist franchise as both star and director ahead of a March 5, 2027, debut.
Jordan plays Thomas Crown, the billionaire art thief at the center of the new film. Amazon MGM’s teaser presents him as a globe-trotting operator whose crimes put him on a collision course with a former FBI agent played by Adria Arjona.
According to Variety, Kenneth Branagh also appears as a threatening villain figure who could bring Crown down. The report says this version of Crown is not stealing for kicks alone: his real aim is to return valuable artifacts that were stolen or sold to the people who created them.
What is Michael B. Jordan’s Thomas Crown Affair about?
The film follows Crown through high-end heists while Arjona’s ex-FBI agent tracks him from job to job. Variety reports that Jordan’s take reframes the famous thief’s motives around the recovery of culturally significant works and raises the stakes beyond luxury and sport.
Jordan described that shift in an interview with Variety in November. “I didn’t want a reboot. I wanted a reimagination. The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today,” he said. “Ours is more personal. The stakes are higher. Still got the fashion, romance.”
The new movie is the third screen version of the Thomas Crown story. The original 1968 film starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, while the 1999 remake starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.
Amazon MGM’s public trailer release follows an earlier industry preview. Variety reported that the footage first screened at CinemaCon in April, after Jordan’s best actor Oscar win for Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror film. The outlet said the award marked Jordan’s first Academy Award nomination and win.

Jordan directs the new Thomas Crown Affair, making it his latest project behind the camera. Drew Pearce wrote the screenplay from an earlier draft by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, with the story tied back to the 1968 film written by Alan Trustman.
The producing team includes Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo for Outlier Society, Charles Roven for Atlas Entertainment, Patrick McCormick, and Marc Toberoff of Toberoff Productions. Trustman is serving as an executive producer.
The trailer is available through Amazon MGM Studios’ YouTube channel. For now, the studio has planted the film on the calendar for March 5, 2027, putting Jordan’s sharply dressed thief on track for a spring return to the big screen.
