The Thunder Road cast has added Shane McRae, with the Silo actor set as a series regular in AMC’s coming NASCAR drama, Variety reported.

The series is being made through a partnership between AMC and NASCAR. Dennis Quaid is already attached to lead the show, which AMC ordered in April and plans to premiere in 2027 on AMC and AMC+.

Who is Shane McRae playing in Thunder Road?

McRae will play Scooter Jakes, a veteran figure in the NASCAR world of the show, according to Variety. Scooter is the crew chief for Trey on the famed No. 28 car and works as a key member of the Whitlock Racing Team.

Variety reported that the character is one of the people Quaid’s Duane Whitlock wants nearby when pressure rises. Quaid plays Duane, a racing legend at the center of the family drama.

The drama follows the fictional Whitlock family, whose name is tied to stock car racing and to Southern hill country roots, according to the show’s logline reported by Variety. The series is framed as a multi-generation story, putting family legacy and the race circuit in the same lane.

Who else is in the Thunder Road cast?

Alongside Quaid and McRae, the cast includes Michael Rooker, Maggie Grace, Matt Barr, West Duchovny, Chase Stokes and Devon Allman, Variety reported.

McRae is currently seen on Apple TV’s Silo, where he plays Knox and has appeared since the first season. Variety also reported that he recently appeared in FX’s The Lowdown and is set to come back for that show’s second season.

His other television credits include Spectrum Originals’ Paradise Lost, ABC’s Alaska Daily, Amazon’s Sneaky Pete and Fox’s The Following. On film, he has appeared in The Help, Still Alice and The Adjustment Bureau.

Variety reported that McRae is represented by Gersh.

Who is making Thunder Road?

John Fusco created Thunder Road and is an executive producer. Taylor Elmore is attached as showrunner and executive producer, according to Variety.

Other executive producers are Cliff Roberts of Syndicate Entertainment, Mark L. Smith and NASCAR Studios’ Tim Clark and John Dahl. Gladys Cheng is a producer. AMC Studios and NASCAR Studios are producing the series.
