Zendaya's Spider-Man premiere dress put the web-slinging theme right on the carpet, though not in the obvious red-and-blue way. For the Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Monday night, the actor arrived at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood wearing a black satin Ashi Studio corset with a dramatic sculptural train.
The look capped a fashion-heavy run of appearances for the Marvel sequel, with Zendaya and longtime stylist Law Roach treating the press tour as a character study in clothing. Roach told Variety the premiere outfit was meant to suggest the superhero universe without turning the gown into a costume.
What did Zendaya wear to the Spider-Man premiere?
Zendaya wore a black satin corset by Ashi Studio, designed with a sweeping architectural train. Roach told Variety that the styling included Boucheron jewelry and that the idea behind the look was “an abstract way to present the spider.”
Roach described the concept to Variety as “this metamorphosis of this woman into this thing,” tying the silhouette to the spider imagery around the film. The result was a darker, more sculptural take on franchise dressing, rather than a literal web print or superhero color palette.
Roach would not name one favorite outfit from the tour, according to Variety, but he did single out a major earlier moment: the vintage John Galliano spiderweb dress from the designer’s 1997 “Circus” collection, which Zendaya wore in June at the London premiere of the sequel.
The tour also had a low-cost viral turn. At a Brand New Day fan event in Paris last month, Zendaya skipped couture and wore a vintage Spider-Man T-shirt. Variety reported that Roach found the shirt on eBay for $34.99, then posted the listing on Instagram Stories with the caption, “Style doesn’t always have to cost a fortune.”

Zendaya stars in Spider-Man: Brand New Day with her husband, Tom Holland. The film follows Peter Parker in a world where his friends and family have forgotten him, according to Variety.
The cast also includes Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the movie.
Roach was also asked by Variety about plans for Zendaya’s eventual Dune: Part Three press tour. He did not share styling details, saying only that the project is still some time away and that he is excited for it.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to open in theaters on July 31.
