For anyone trying to figure out how to prevent boob sweat, the expert answer is blunt: it cannot be stopped entirely, according to NBC Selected’s interviews with board-certified nurse practitioners. The better target is cutting trapped moisture under and between the breasts before it turns into chafing, odor, breakouts or painful rashes.
Madeline June, a board-certified nurse practitioner at The Well Westlake, told NBC Selected that the problem starts when heat and dampness sit in the fold where the breast meets the chest. That closed-off area makes it harder for sweat to evaporate, so moisture can build fast.
Can you prevent boob sweat?
You can reduce boob sweat, but experts told NBC Selected that you cannot prevent it completely. Courtney Coons, a board-certified nurse practitioner at PERK Plastic Surgery, said it is a common body issue rather than a sign of poor hygiene.
NBC Selected reported that sweat under the breasts can become worse in hot, humid weather and during hormonal changes tied to menstruation, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause. Tight bras and clothing made from fabrics that do not breathe can also make the area hotter and wetter, according to the experts.
What causes boob sweat?
Boob sweat is sweat trapped under the breasts or between the breasts, where skin, clothing and heat meet. NBC Selected reported that the dampness can lead to irritation from skin rubbing against skin or fabric, and it can also create conditions linked to yeast or fungal overgrowth.
The most practical fixes focus on keeping the area dry, reducing friction and changing out of wet fabric quickly. June told NBC Selected that damp bra fabric rubbing against warm skin raises the risk of chafing, and sweat left on the skin can raise the chance of fungal or yeast rashes.
Which products can help with boob sweat?
NBC Selected highlighted several product types that match expert guidance: bra liners, sweat-control creams, body powders, wipes and cooling bras. The outlet said some products were tested by its team, while others were chosen because they were highly rated by shoppers.
Bra liners: June said fabric liners sit under the bra band and can extend between the breasts to absorb sweat before it pools. NBC Selected listed More of Me to Love Feel Fresh Bra Liners, priced at $12.99 on Amazon, noting their viscose and cotton material, washable design and multiple lengths.
Sweat and odor creams: Coons said some creams are made to absorb moisture and reduce rubbing under bra bands, straps and between the breasts. NBC Selected cited Lumē Whole Body Deodorant Plus Sweat Control, which the brand says offers odor control for up to 72 hours, and Carpe Sweat Absorbing Breast Lotion, which the brand says uses powders including silica to absorb sweat.
Body powder: June said moisture-absorbing powders can help keep skin feeling drier under clothes. NBC Selected named Certain Dri Women’s Body Powder, priced at $7.49 at Amazon and Walmart, and said the brand describes it as talc-free, odor-controlling and anti-chafing.
Body wipes: NBC Selected said wipes can be useful when a shower is not immediately available after sweating. The outlet listed YUNI Beauty Body Wipes, which the brand says are biodegradable, individually packed, deodorizing and made with ingredients including aloe vera leaf juice, cucumber, green tea and apple extracts.
Cooling bras: NBC Selected also included Thirdlove’s TempSync T-Shirt Bra, priced at $82 at ThirdLove, among its picks for hot-weather support.
The experts’ bigger rule is low-tech and hard to dodge: keep the skin as dry as possible, pick soft and breathable materials, and change liners or bras once they become damp. A wet liner or sweaty bra left in place can undercut the whole point.
