A freight train crew in Ontario was shown surrounded by wildfire flames in video reported by TODAY, as Canadian fire smoke pushed into the United States and turned skies orange across a broad stretch of the country.

NBC’s Stephanie Gosk reported for TODAY on July 16 that more than 100 wildfires were burning out of control in Canada. The report said smoke from the fires was moving quickly and covering millions in the U.S., including areas from the Great Lakes to parts of the East Coast.

The video at the center of the report shows a freight train in Ontario with fire burning around it. According to TODAY, the crew could be heard requesting emergency assistance as the train was surrounded by flames.

The TODAY segment, published as a 2-minute, 3-second video, focused on the Canadian wildfires, the conditions facing the Ontario train crew and the expanding smoke problem in the U.S.
