Telemundo marked the end of its 2026 World Cup coverage after Spain beat Argentina in the final in New York.

Telemundo signed off from the 2026 FIFA World Cup on July 19 with a 13-minute farewell segment celebrating both Spain’s title and the network’s tournament coverage.
The network framed the closing piece as a sendoff “with the Cup held high,” saying Spain was not the only champion of the tournament and describing its own World Cup team, billed as the “Selección de Telemundo,” as having delivered historic coverage.
The farewell came after Spain defeated Argentina in the final in New York, according to Telemundo’s World Cup programming. The network’s postmatch lineup described Spain as world champion and said the victory gave the national team its second star, 16 years after its previous World Cup triumph.
Telemundo’s coverage around the final leaned into the full sweep of the night: Spain’s coronation, Argentina’s pain, and the last round of voices from players, coaches and analysts after the tournament closed.
Spain’s night, Argentina’s heartbreak
Several Telemundo segments focused on Spain’s celebration after the final. One video showed Spain lifting the World Cup, while another followed the team’s coronation after beating Argentina in New York.
The network also highlighted comments from Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón, who said, according to Telemundo, “There is nothing bigger than winning a World Cup.”
Mikel Oyarzabal was featured in another postmatch clip after Spain’s win. Telemundo quoted him as saying it would take the players some time to believe what they had achieved.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente also appeared in Telemundo’s coverage. In one segment, he called the title “the best script for a movie” and said it was an honor to coach the players, according to the network.
