The Tony Romo arrest in Milwaukee came Thursday evening after officials said the CBS football analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests during a traffic stop.
Romo, 46, was arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving, NBC News reported, citing Milwaukee County Sheriff’s records. The records said he was stopped on southbound Interstate 43 at about 6:18 p.m. CDT.
Officials did not immediately provide further details about what led to the stop beyond the sheriff’s records cited by NBC News. The report said it was not immediately clear Friday whether Romo had retained a defense attorney to speak for him.
Why was Tony Romo arrested?
According to Milwaukee County Sheriff’s records cited by NBC News, Romo was pulled over on I-43 and then arrested after he “performed poorly” on standardized field sobriety tests.
An arrest on suspicion of intoxicated driving means authorities have accused a person of driving while impaired, but it is not a finding of guilt. NBC News did not report any court outcome or charging decision in the case.
WTMJ, the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee, reported that the traffic stop happened just hours after Romo had finished an interview with the station.
